Calhoun County Students Recognized by Board for Artistic Achievement

Art Students recognized at the April Board Meeting

4/19/2018 April Board Meeting Recognition -

The annual State Superintendent's Visual Arts Exhibit was held February 2-23.

This year, for the first time, students were also able to provide pieces inspired by the people, places and events that have shaped our state's rich history over the last 200 years!

Students at all of our schools were informed and encouraged to participate.

The following studetns were  present at the April Board Meeting and recognized by the board for their artistic accomplishments:

  • Katherine Alterman, Saks Elementary, Fourth Grade
  • Paige Waits, Saks Elementary, Fourth Grade
  • Nina Tolleson, Ohatchee Elementary, Sixth Grade
  • Ashlyn Valachi, Walter Wellborn High School, Eighth Grade
  • Victoria Ard, Calhoun County Career Academy, Twelfth Grade
  • Lauren Starke, Ohatchee High School, Twelfth Grade
  • Not Present: Katherine Rutschilling (White Plains High), Daniella Pedraza (White Plains High), Teonna Williams (Saks High), Nick Boone (Walter Wellborn High), Trenton Shealy-Clark (White Plains High), Benjamin Richard Holcomb (Weaver High), and Lily Larson (White Plains High)

Of special note is that Ashlyn's piece was selected from all entries across the state to be displayed for the yearlong Alabama State Department of Education Student Exhibition!
