Alabama Bicentennial Project

If you are a descendant of the families buried at the abandoned Hudson Cemetery, namely Hudson, Wells, Palmer, or Vaughn, please contact Keitha Kirk, co-sponsor of the History Club, at kkirk.wp@ccboe.us.

There is a Traveling Exhibit that will be at the Anniston Library, 2nd floor from August 7th-23rd.

Three schools in each Congressional District will be selected as Bicentennial Schools of Excellence after the completion of their project.  Including WPHS, there are 28 schools in our district on the list.

Although the History Club is taking the lead on the project, anyone in the school is more than welcome to help.
We will be cleaning up the abandoned Hudson Cemetery.  It is located in the Talladega National Forest, not far from the Elementary school.  A Waiver from the Alabama Forestry Commission must be signed.
We will be locating descendants of the burials and host a reunion April 2019.
There is a War of 1812 and Confederate Soldier buried there.
Because of the age of the cemetery it qualifies to be placed on the Alabama Cemetery Preservation list and the Alabama Historical Commission list.
The History Club will maintain the cemetery annually afterwards.

Below are the known burials (there may be more).  If you are a descendant or you think you might know of a descendant, please let us know.
