On January 7, Mason Webb (8th grader) auditioned for the Southern Knights Drum and Bugle Corps drum line in Pell City and was awarded a contract with the organization to play bass drum number 3. Now you might be wondering, what is Drum and Bugle Corps and what makes it so special? Drum Corps International, or DCI, is essentially a professional marching ensemble that only has horns, like trumpets and tubas, drums, like our very own Highlanders drum line, and color guard including flags, sabers, and rifles. It is an incredible honor to be accepted to this group. The level of competition between the various corps is incredibly intense. Mason will spend the next several months preparing for the competitive season that will take place this summer. He, along with fellow members, will compete in many shows across the Southeast and will end their season at the DCA Finals competition in Williamsport, PA on September 2, 2018. In addition to successfully securing a membership to an elite drum line, Mason recently received a score of 91 out of 100 at the All County Honor Band auditions and was awarded 1st chair timpanist.
