Bringing with her more than twenty years of experience in education to Calhoun County Schools, Karen Carr began her teaching career in the 6th-8th grade English Language Arts (ELA) middle school classroom. During her first years of teaching, she trained as a teacher with the Alabama Reading Initiative and later became a facilitator of the ARI modules while teaching high school ELA 10th-12th grades. From there, she joined the Alabama Reading Initiative Project for Adolescent Literacy (ARI-PAL) as a Regional Support Specialist for the JSU Region. Eager to learn more, Mrs. Carr  joined Jacksonville State University (JSU) as the administrator of the On To JSU transition program for students with intellectual disabilities and Transition University (TU), a community-based program partnership of local schools and the Collaborative Program in the JSU School of Education. Mrs. Carr is beginning her second year as assistant principal at White Plains Middle School.
