Early Childhood Education

  • Early Childhood Education offers students opportunities to develop basic skills necessary for providing childcare services.

     

    • Emphasis is placed on childcare environments, growth and development of children, daily routine plans, and preschool learning experiences.

    • The course provides knowledge and skills that emphasize creating a healthy and safe environment for nurturing and teaching children.

    • Developing favorable attitudes and relationships with parents, children, older adults, employers, and co-workers are concept taught to assist students in making the transition from school to career.

    • A supervised classroom experience teaching three-and four-year olds provides the setting for students to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to be competent in childcare.

    • Leadership development content standards and Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) as an instructional system are integrated parts of the course.

Student-Operated Preschool

  • The Calhoun County Career Academy operates a part-time student-operated preschool program.  High school students enrolled in the program are responsible for the instruction of the preschool students and are supervised by an instructor.

     

    Requirements for enrollment (school year 16-17)

    • The child must be 3 years of age before September 1, 2016

    • The child must be able to handle his/her own bathroom needs

    • The child's behavior must be manageable by high school students

    • All enrollment forms must be completed

    • An up-to-date blue immunization form mus be on file on or before the first day of preschool in September.
