White Plains Elementary School Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Abbie Keel has a love for teaching that is very evident as soon as you begin speaking to her. Within that love to educate, she a special passion for teaching agriculture. Mrs. Keel's interest in agriculture began as a child, influenced by her grandfather.
A few years ago, Mrs. Keel applied for a grant given by "Alabam Ag in the Classroom" and was awarded $500 to purchase an incubator, eggs, and roost to hatch chickens in her classroom. Mrs. Keel was recently awarded the "Excellence in Teaching Agriculture" award (open to all teachers K-12) and will represent the State of Alabama in Phoenix, AZ, June 2016 at the National Ag in the Classroom conference. She was also awarded a cash prize of $500 for this award.
The ALFA Farmer's Federation also recently recognized Mrs. Keel by giving her the "Excellence in Ag" award. This was awarded for promoting agricultural literacy and the prize pack included a John Deere zero turn lawn mower, laptop, Yeti cooler, and trip to Orlando. We're very proud to have Mrs. Keel here in the Calhoun County School System!
